Anticipation is high for Apple's upcoming iPhone 16 series, which promises to outshine the iPhone 15 and 15 Pro with an array of captivating features, powered by the AI-assisted iOS 18. Here are four major innovations expected with the iPhone 16 and 16 Pro Max:

  1. Introduction of a New Capture Button: The iPhone 16 series will feature a novel button situated below the power button on the right side across all models, designed exclusively for capturing photos and videos when the phone is held horizontally. This Capture button will be a standard mechanical button sensitive to pressure. Additionally, both the standard and Pro models will be equipped with an Action Button.

  2. Increased Screen Sizes: Since the 2020 iPhone 12 series, Apple has consistently used 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch screens. The iPhone 16 series will see a shift in this trend, with the iPhone 16 Pro expected to sport a 6.3-inch display and the iPhone 16 Pro Max a 6.9-inch display. The standard iPhone 16 will maintain a 6.1-inch screen, and the iPhone 16 Plus will have a 6.7-inch screen.

  3. New Camera Configuration: Apple is set to overhaul the camera setup for the iPhone 16 models. The iPhone 16 and 16 Plus will move away from the cross-camera setup seen in recent years to a new vertical arrangement. This change is anticipated to bring spatial video recording capabilities to the iPhone 16 models, a feature currently exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max. The most significant camera update, including a 48-megapixel ultra-wide camera for superior low-light performance and pixel binning technology for high-quality images, will be exclusive to the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max. Additionally, the 5x optical zoom feature, previously exclusive to the 15 Pro Max, will be available on both the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max.

  4. iOS 18: An AI-Powered Update: In a bid to compete with tech giants like Microsoft, Google, and OpenAI, Apple is investing heavily in AI for 2024. Although AI enhancements are primarily software-based, they require compatible hardware support. The iOS 18 update is expected to introduce significant AI-based improvements, with some features limited to the iPhone 16 series due to processing demands. All four iPhone 16 models will come equipped with the A18 Bionic chip, manufactured using a 3 nm process, promising significantly faster processing and an enhanced Neural Engine.

As the September launch date for the iPhone 16 series approaches, more details about the highly anticipated iPhone 16 Pro Max's design and features are expected to emerge. The innovations of iOS 18 that will power the iPhone 16 are set to be unveiled in early June, as per Apple's annual tradition.
